JOB: Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare Senior Vice President & CEO, Methodist South Hospital
SPORTS: Triathlons, Golf
FAMILY: Wife and four kids (20, 15, 10, 5)
FIT CLUB: I started a triathlon team at Methodist; we call ourselves TRI MLH! The neat thing is that most were first time triathletes.
WW CLAIM TO FAME: Wolfman Duathlon— 4th in age group, Memphis in May Sprint Tri— 6th in age group, Elvis Presley 5k— 5th in age group, Los Locos Duathlon— 1st in age group.
NEXT WW RACE: Wolfman Duathlon! It’s muddy and a lot of fun.
FAVORITE FITNESS ACCOMPLISHMENT: My first marathon in 1996. It was grueling but I finished in under 4 hours!
PROUDEST WW EVENT: Completing the New Orleans half ironman in 4:55! I don’t think that I have ever been so exhausted. I burned nearly 5000 calories.
FITNESS MOTIVATION: The fact that I have a stressful job motivates me to stay disciplined about health and wellness. I try to encourage all of our associates to focus on wellness even while they work. Each week we have a “walk with the CEO” in which associates join me in a quick one-mile walk around the campus. I think it is easy for busy people to say they don’t have time but we all have the ability to carve out 30 minutes to take care of ourselves.
BEST EATS: I’m somewhat of a foodie. I enjoy Erling Jensen, Folks Folly, and now Stoney River. It’s a tough call but it’s hard to beat the chicken and waffles at Flight. I also love the crispy oysters at Interim.
WW MUST-HAVE’S: A nice tri-bike. I love my Felt B2!
BUCKET LIST: Hike the Appalachian Trail. I don’t know when I will find the time but it’s going to happen.
”The fact that I have a stressful job motivates me to stay disciplined about health and wellness.”
INDULGENCE: A nice bottle of wine! Nicholson Ranch
WHAT FAMOUS PERSON WOULD YOU LIKE AS A DINNER COMPANION: Elon Musk. I think he not only thinks outside the box, he thinks outside of the planet. I like the way that he pushes against conventional wisdom.
WHAT IS ONE THING MOST PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU: I am a closet video game junkie. I’m hooked on Call of Duty and Boom Beach.
ON YOUR NIGHTSTAND: “The Wright Brothers” by David McCullough and re-reading “Hellhound on His Trail” by Hampton Sides.
