Weekend Warrior: Don Mulhern ~ runner

AGE: 54

JOB: Flight Training Scheduler at FedEx

FAMILY: Wife–Laurie, Wiener Dog–Bryant

FIT CLUB: Stacy Chick’s River Runners

LATEST WW EVENTS: Cooper Young 4-miler with a time of 27:06 and placed 28th overall and placed 2nd in age group; Chicago Marathon with a time of 3:27:43, which is nowhere near placing, but I did qualify for Boston!

ROAD RAGE: Lost my damn shoe around mile 11 at the Chicago Marathon. Some clown rolled my ankle and flipped the shoe clean off. Had to backtrack through oncoming traffic, find it, put it back on and fight to refocus. Felt like a really good time to quit, for sure!

FAVORITE FITNESS ACCOMPLISHMENT: Half Marathon Age group awards at Nashville, Jackson (MS), Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Chickamauga, and St. Jude Memphis.

“Every run is different. You reap what you sow and you get everything out of each run that you put into it.”

MOST MEMORABLE WW EVENT: R&R Nashville Marathon 2008, my first one. Around mile 22, I prayed that someone would take pity and just shoot me.

I RUNNING: Every run is different. You reap what you sow and you get everything out of each run that you put into it.

FITNESS MOTIVATION: Beer and pizza are friends, not enemies!

RUNNING HEROES: Every runner who’s ever overcome injuries or illnesses and fought back to the start line. Friends, you know who you are!

NEXT WW CHALLENGE: Chickamauga Battlefield Half Marathon. The course rolls through the battlefield in the early morning mist. It’s lovely and haunting. Always cold, too…

WW MUST-HAVE’S: I just bought the new Garmin 735. It beeps if you sit for more than 30 minutes and flashes MOVE. That’s kind of obnoxious for a gadget!

BEST EATS: S.O.B for the pork chop, Green Beetle or Café Pontotoc for the burger with Ghost River Golden, of course.

ON MY NIGHTSTAND: World War Z, so that I can…

BINGE WATCH: The dizzying array of Zombie shows on TV. Recently binged on Penny Dreadful.

FAVORITE QUOTE: “One day I won’t be able to do this. Today is not that day.”
