Weekend Warrior: Jacob Abart Sr., Triathlete

Triathlete, 35, Principal at Running Pony Productions, Cub Scout Den Co-Leader

Braggin’ Rights:

I’ve finished an Ironman, a few Ironman 70.3s, 2 marathons, a handful of half marathons, and a Spartan Super. I’m a solid middle-of-the-pack racer so no podium finishes (yet).

Most Memorable:

I’ll never forget my first triathlon. The water was warmer than the air, and it was raining relentlessly. As I transitioned to the bike, the clouds parted and the sun shined down on the course. I couldn’t help but sing U2’s Beautiful Day as I rode along.

 I ❤ Tri’s:

What I love most about triathlons is that everyone out there on the course has an inspiring story to tell, and the best stories come from those you least expect.

Motivation:

When my wife and I were expecting our first son, it was time for a change. I sold the PlayStation and bought a treadmill. Bad habits have been replaced with trying to be the best I can for my wife and children.

Next Challenge:

I’m currently training for Ironman 70.3 Muncie and a Spartan Super outside Nashville.

Go-To Gear:

My must-have gear is a flashlight. I’m typically out the door by 4:30 am so I can be home in time to help get our boys ready for school.

Best Eats:

My favorite food in Memphis has to be the El Mero Taco Truck. The Southern Fried Chicken Tacos hit the spot after a long week of training.

Passion:

I’m extremely fortunate to have married my high school sweetheart who delivered four miracles into our lives. Out of everything in my life, I’m passionate about being a husband, a father, and a role model for our boys. I’m not perfect, but I’ll never stop trying.

He Said She Said:

According to my wife, I’m the only person in the world who has made running expensive.
