I LOVE MY SPORTS: I have a hectic life, and being outdoors on a bike means freedom from daily worries and stresses.
BUCKET LIST: I want to become a confident swimmer so I can complete a triathlon by the time I’m 55.
UP NEXT: Stars and Stripes 5K in July and the Big Dam River Ride in Little Rock in September
FAVORITE FITNESS ACCOMPLISHMENT: I finished my first 5K a month after saying I’d never run! I have now run three or four 5Ks and beat my time in each race.
RECENT RACES: M-Town Series. Harbortown 5K.
MY GROUP: Victory Bicycle Summer Training Group 2022 and Major Taylor Memphis. I also participate in the South Memphis Glide Rides with the team at work and our neighbors.
FAVORITE JAMS: It changes, but right now, it’s Imagine That by local artist Talibah Safiya.
GO-TO GEAR: Apple Watch
MOST MEMORABLE FITNESS EVENT: Participating in a bike study tour in the Netherlands one month after learning to ride a bike for the first time.
BEST EATS: I prefer locally-owned restaurants – not chains. I like good food and will give anything a try.
DREAM DINNER COMPANY: I’d have dinner with Prince, who is my favorite artist. I think he was a master artist and pretty cerebral, so it’d make for an interesting conversation.
INSPIRATION: I’ve watched too many friends, family, and neighbors die young or live with poor quality of life because of diet-related illnesses and/or physical inactivity. My dad and sister passed away at 55 yrs and 40 yrs, respectively. They suffered from auto-immune disorders. I want to live the best and fullest life for myself and my daughter, given that I don’t know when it will end. I also want to be an example for the vulnerable populations I serve, who too often die too young.
