What is functional nutrition, and why is it different from other nutrition counseling?
Functional nutrition focuses on the individual instead of the disease and uses a root-cause approach. It is very important to acknowledge that what works for one person may not work for another.
Often, people turn to functional nutrition when they have tried all other avenues for healing.
By looking at genetics, epigenetics (lifestyle and environmental factors), and inflammation, a functional nutrition practitioner can make suggestions based on a timeline of information. Your individual ROADMAP!
After all, we are all unique, all things matter, and everything is connected.
Are you struggling with sugar cravings, sleep issues, weight gain no matter how hard you try, pain, brain fog, hormonal issues, acne/eczema/psoriasis, depression, anxiety, IBS, autoimmunity, debilitating headaches, and so on?
If so, you should dig deeper to find the root cause. Some include the following:
- Stress
- Parasites
- Low stomach acid and lack of digestive enzymes leading to Candida overgrowth and SIBO
- Opportunistic Pathogenic Bacteria
- Lack of commensals, good bacteria
- Blood sugar imbalance
- Mold
- Lyme disease
- Celiac or Gluten Sensitivity
- MTHFR and COMT polymorphisms
- Mercury amalgams and fillings
- Heavy Metals
- Gut issues due to medications and birth control
- Mineral and vitamin deficiencies
- Sleep Apnea
- Medication Side Effects
- And the list goes on!
It’s also important to note: If you’re not sleeping or pooping, you’re not detoxing! There are key steps and tools to help ensure we optimize every part of life.
