FAV WAY TO WORKOUT:
I typically write my own eight to 10–week cycles with specific muscle group days. Some days are more exciting than others, based on what I enjoy, but the less interesting days are necessary for building up my body and increasing anticipation for the days I enjoy.
BIGGEST FITNESS MYTH:
Lifting makes you slower. As a former collegiate track athlete, I know the phobia that touching a weight will make you fifty pounds heavier. But strength and conditioning tailored to the athlete can only make you faster and protect you from injury
BIGGEST NUTRITION MYTH:
The belief that only eating salads and greens is the key to a healthy lifestyle and weight loss. If you don’t find ways to enjoy what you’re eating, then the nutrition journey is going to be short.
MY TYPICAL WORKOUT DAY:
Chest and bicep days are usually my favorite. I usually regulate it to a bunch of push moves built around hypertrophy, burnout routines, and three-second eccentrics.
MY ADVICE:
Always have a goal, and remind yourself of it when you walk through the door ready to work out.
IF I COULD ONLY HAVE ONE PIECE OF EQUIPMENT:
Dumbbells! No matter what muscle group I’m targeting, there are always creative ways to hit them with dumbbells.
MY FITNESS INSPIRATION:
My best friend, Dave. He showed me it’s possible to keep hard training and fitness goals in my life, and that I don’t have to sit around feeling bad about not being in the same shape I was during my collegiate years.
DREAM WORKOUT PARTNER:
A leg day with Jeff Cavaliere, so he could nitpick my form to perfection and provide a ton of science behind the movements.
WHAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED:
Dedication over motivation. Motivation is a feeling; dedication is an act. Whereas feelings are fleeting, action literally moves you. I have very lofty goals in my life, and I need to be dedicated to the process of getting there — no matter how difficult some days are.
NEWBIE ADVICE:
Patience. Learn to enjoy the journey, because if you do, it’s going to be a much more rewarding experience.
GOALS FOR THE YEAR AHEAD:
Long-term, I’d like to continue building muscle and perhaps put myself to the test with obstacle races like HYROX or Tough Mudder.
