FAV WAY TO WORKOUT:
I love fusion because it gives me a little bit of everything. I get to do some weightlifting, a lot of stretching, a little bit of dance, and of course Pilates.
BIGGEST FITNESS MYTH:
“Nothing works.” There are so many things to try as research and education advance. Please keep trying, and if you can’t figure out what works on your own, ask someone for help.
BIGGEST NUTRITION MYTH:
“Drastic reduction in calories is the best way to lose weight.” Every BODY is different, and there is absolutely a way to get healthy without feeling hungry.
MY TYPICAL WORKOUT DAY:
After a good night’s sleep, I do a solid bit of stretching and cardio while incorporating weights. Then I continue moving throughout the day and modify as needed. I listen to my body and nourish appropriately. I end the day with a calming stretch and meditation.
MY ADVICE:
Fitness is not just going to the gym. It’s full body health: physical, medical, dental, mental, and spiritual.
MY FITNESS TIP:
If you hate a particular exercise, refocus your breath. So many times, breathing on the “in” versus the “out,” or the opposite, can make a move feel better.
IF I COULD ONLY HAVE ONE PIECE OF EQUIPMENT:
As a dentist, I’d say a toothbrush, but at the gym, I love my mat. A good thick Pilates mat makes workouts so much more comfortable.
DREAM WORKOUT PARTNER:
My husband. I do a 50-50 mix of my style class and running with him, then lift weights together. And of course, laughing constantly because if you haven’t met my husband, he’s hilarious.
GO-TO SNACK:
Protein drinks. I’m always on the run, so it’s much easier to sip on something throughout the day than to stop and have a snack.
DIET PHILOSOPHY:
Protein first, then base your meals around colors. Make a rainbow.
ONE FOOD I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT:
Pasta. It’s so tasty and versatile. Plus, my boys love mac and cheese.
WHAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED:
Knowing that if I take care of my body, my body will take care of me.
NEWBIE ADVICE:
Just show up!
GOALS FOR THE YEAR AHEAD:
I’ve just finished a weight loss journey, and now I am working on gaining muscle. I started weightlifting after my second child. Besides lifting and carrying my five-year-old and three-year-old, I try to eat healthier by adding fresh produce from the Germantown Farm Park and making more food at home.
