Boutique Owned and Operated by Breast Cancer Survivor Brings Natural and Zero-Waste Options to Memphis
Boshi Botanicals, a Memphis-based business offering natural, artisan soaps and bath products, has opened its first retail space at 3092 Poplar Ave., Suite 16, inside the Chickasaw Oaks shopping mall. The store features natural soap and body products from Boshi Botanicals, as well as a zero-waste refill station and handcrafted goods from Memphis-area artists.
“Our goal at Boshi Botanicals is to offer great products that meet our values of being good for people and our planet,” said founder and CEO, Becky Beloin. “We are proud to bring Memphis a store that meets the needs of consumers looking for natural, plastic-free products and for those who want to steer clear of synthetic fragrances.”
Beloin is personally vetting all products coming into the store to ensure they meet her standards of human and environmental safety. She emphasizes products produced by small, women, and minority-owned businesses.
Boshi Botanicals was born out of a plot twist. Beloin was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020 at the age of 38 and, during treatment and recovery, found herself looking more closely at the ingredients in her food, cosmetics, soaps, and cleaning products. She turned to soap making as a form of art therapy to manage her PTSD and to help control what she and her family used on their bodies.
“There has to be a reason more and more young women are being diagnosed with breast cancer,” stated Beloin. “No one will likely ever be able to tell me exactly what caused mine, but learning about environmental factors that could have contributed to it spurred me on my journey to find alternative products that I feel are safer for my body and better for our planet.”
Boshi Botanicals is open Tuesdays-Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. A grand opening celebration will be held from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023.
