Her Calling to Care

A Memphis native, Dr. Kristin Owens attended Rhodes College before earning her medical degree at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. She completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency in Dallas, Texas, then spent four years practicing at NEA Baptist in Jonesboro before returning to Memphis to join MOGA in 2022.

Although she entered medical school open to exploring different specialties, she quickly found her calling. After just one week on her gynecology rotation, she knew she had found the right fit. “I fell in love with the specialty,” she remembers.

Inside Her Practice

Dr. Owens loves the opportunity to care for women throughout their lives, building lasting relationships as patients navigate everything from growing their families to managing changing health needs. She has also developed a particular interest in menopause care and recently earned a certification in the field.

For Dr. Owens, building relationships with patients is among the most rewarding parts of her work. She also values the supportive environment at MOGA, where she works alongside colleagues who share her dedication to women’s health.

Her Fitness Prescription

Running is Dr. Owens’ favorite way to stay active. She enjoys spending time outdoors and describes the meditative quality of her feet hitting the pavement. Her preferred routes include the Memphis Greenline and Wolf River Greenway, where she can get outside, clear her mind, and challenge herself physically.

Dr. Owens is currently training for the St. Jude Memphis Marathon® Weekend Half Marathon in December, adding another goal to her fitness journey. To complement her outdoor runs, she cross-trains with Peloton and a virtual personal trainer. She says consistency starts with making fitness a priority. She plans her weekly workouts, meal-plans to keep nutritious options available, and leans on her family and support system for motivation.

Over the past five years, she has made significant lifestyle changes and focused on improving her health. Her medical training reinforced the importance of fitness for overall well-being, but her personal experience has made those lessons even more meaningful. “I’ve learned the importance of managing my own fitness to be able to be the best version of myself for my patients and also as a way to inspire healthy lifestyle choices for my patients,” she says.

Beyond the White Coat

When she’s not caring for patients or logging miles, Dr. Owens enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters. She loves traveling and gardening, finding time to unwind through activities that take her away from the demands of the office. The family is also enthusiastic about Memphis sports, especially the Grizzlies, and enjoys attending games together.

For Dr. Owens, balancing a busy medical career with fitness and family comes down to intentional choices. By prioritizing her health, she invests not only in herself but also in her ability to care for her patients and enjoy the life she’s building outside the office.
