His Calling to Care

Dr. Marcus Biggers II, originally from Greenwood, Mississippi, attended Mississippi State University before earning his medical degree at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. During his third year of medical school, he discovered his interest in orthopedic surgery, drawn to the variety of cases and the opportunity to work in the operating room.

Having grown up playing sports, he naturally gravitated toward sports medicine. After completing a five-year residency at the University of Tennessee-Campbell Clinic in Memphis, he pursued a sports medicine fellowship at Andrews Sports Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama.

After completing his training, Dr. Biggers and his wife returned to the Memphis area to establish their lives and raise their family. “We felt like it would be a great place to live and raise our family, and I knew Memphis had an excellent medical community,” he says. He joined OrthoSouth in 2021 and has enjoyed working alongside colleagues committed to providing excellent orthopedic care throughout the Mid-South.

Inside the Practice

For Dr. Biggers, one of the most rewarding parts of orthopedic surgery is helping people get back to doing what they love. Whether he’s treating a high school athlete eager to return to competition or a weekend warrior hoping to stay active, he finds satisfaction in helping patients regain function and maintain their quality of life. His background as an athlete and his work in sports medicine give him a particular appreciation for the physical demands athletes face and the importance of helping them recover safely.

His Fitness Prescription

Dr. Biggers prefers variety in his workouts to keep exercise interesting and sustainable. He typically heads to the gym two or three days a week after work for strength training and light cardio. When his schedule doesn’t allow a gym visit, he uses his treadmill or stationary bike at home for longer cardio workouts. Between a demanding medical career and family commitments, flexibility is essential. If his children’s sports practices or other obligations disrupt his plans, he adjusts instead of skipping exercise altogether.

His goal is to get some form of physical activity three to four days each week. Beyond the physical benefits, exercise provides a valuable opportunity to decompress after a long day in the office. For Dr. Biggers, establishing a consistent routine makes maintaining his commitment much easier.

Beyond the White Coat

When he’s not treating patients, Dr. Biggers loves spending time outdoors with his family. Summer often means heading to the lake for wake surfing, while spring brings family ski trips, and fall is reserved for hiking in national parks.

Those adventures also serve as motivation to stay fit throughout the year. Keeping his legs strong and his body conditioned helps him enjoy everything from mountain trails to the slopes.

Whether he’s helping a patient return to the playing field or preparing for the family’s next adventure, his approach to fitness is rooted in staying healthy so he can keep doing what he loves with the people who matter most.
