Tennis, sunshine, and community spirit came together in a major way at the recent Spring Fling Mixed Doubles Mixer & Family Play Night hosted by Tennis Memphis in partnership with the USTA Foundation and La Roche-Posay®.
Held at the outdoor courts of Leftwich Tennis Center, the event blended fitness, fun, and wellness education into one lively evening for players of all ages. More than 90 participants filled the courts for mixed doubles play, family tennis activities, and interactive health-focused experiences centered around sun safety.
While the competition and family games kept energy levels high, the day’s bigger message focused on protecting athletes’ health both on and off the court. Attendees had the opportunity to learn directly from local dermatologists about the importance of sunscreen, skin protection, and early skin cancer detection. Free skin checks were offered on-site by dermatologist Dr. Michael Schneider of Dermatology East, providing participants with an accessible, practical way to prioritize preventive care while enjoying an active lifestyle.
The event also featured a La Roche-Posay education and sampling station stocked with skincare products and informational materials, reinforcing the fact that wellness extends far beyond workouts and nutrition. For tennis players especially, hours spent outdoors can significantly increase sun exposure, making proper skin protection just as essential as hydration and recovery.
Events like this continue to show how Memphis fitness organizations are finding creative ways to merge recreation with education. By combining movement, community connection, and preventative health awareness, Tennis Memphis and its partners delivered a reminder that staying healthy isn’t just about being active; it’s also about protecting yourself for the long game.
